About Hutton
Description of Hutton, Somerset
The village and civil parish of Hutton are located in the English county of Somerset. The parish, home to 2,582 people and situated on the western outskirts of the Mendip Hills, is in North Somerset and is quite close to the popular seaside resort town of Weston-super-Mare.
History of Hutton
South-east of the parish is where you'll find Elborough Hill, an Iron Age hill fort with accompanying Iron Age or Romano-British field systems. Hotune, which means "The enclosure on the projection of land" in Old English, was the name given to Hutton in the Domesday Book of 1086.
Historically, the parish belonged to the Winterstoke Hundred, Manor house Hutton Court was constructed in the 15th century and is now a Grade II* listed structure due to its historical significance.
Since 1999, the Kenyan town of Dabaso has been a "twin" of the Canadian town of Hutton. Setting an annual precept (local rate) to support the council's operational costs and releasing annual reports for public review is under the purview of the parish council. In terms of crime, security, and traffic, the parish council examines local planning applications and collaborates with the police, district council officers, and neighborhood watch groups. In addition to advising the district council on the upkeep of roads, drainage, footpaths, public transportation, and street cleaning, the parish council is responsible for initiating projects to repair and improve parish facilities like the village hall or community center, playing fields, and playgrounds. The council is also concerned with environmental concerns and conservation problems (such as trees and historic landmarks).
Because of the Local Government Act of 1992, the parish is part of the North Somerset unitary authority, which was founded in 1996. Local planning and building regulation, local roads, council housing, environmental health, markets and fairs, rubbish collection, recycling, cemeteries, crematories, leisure services, parks, and tourism are all handled by this one level of government. While the Avon Fire and Rescue Service, Avon and Somerset Constabulary, and the South Western Ambulance Service provide fire, police, and ambulance services jointly with other authorities, the council is still responsible for education, social services, libraries, main roads, public transportation, trading standards, waste disposal, and strategic planning.
While North Somerset is located in the ceremonial county of Somerset, it is not part of the administration of the non-metropolitan county. The Weston-super-Mare town hall serves as the organization's administrative heart. Avon County's Woodspring district before 1974 and after 1996. In the years before to 1974, the parish was included in the Axbridge Rural District.
The village is part of the electoral ward known as "Hutton and Locking." The ward extends from Locking in the north to Hutton in the middle and south to Bleadon. A total of 6,417 people were counted in the 2011 census. As a component of the Weston-super-Mare county constituency, the parish is represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It uses a first-past-the-post voting method to elect a single MP to parliament.
