This article is about the village and civil parish of Ulnes Walton in the Borough of Chorley in the English county of Lancashire. There were 2,672 people living there as of the 2011 United Kingdom Census. 

There are also two jails in the hamlet. Male inmates in Category B are held at Garth Prison, while those in Category C are housed at Wymott Prison.

History of Ulnes Walton

As the name of this village has changed spellings over time, so has the way it is pronounced. Oves Walton and Oos Walton are positively identified as those responsible.

Ulf of Walton, a lord of the barony of Penwortham, owned the Walton estate in the 13th century. They say the first UIf was a Danish pirate who sailed up the Douglas, turned right into the Lostock, and eventually landed in Littlewood. About two miles away from Ulnes Walton school is the location now known as Littlewood Hall, once the site of Ulf's manor house.

Until recently, there was a tiny triangular patch of land bounded by hedges just north of Lostock Bridge, on the eastern side of the road to Leyland. Stray animals were brought here and maintained by a pinner or pinder until their owners paid one shilling to the township overseers to get them back. The pinfold has been leveled and the trees that once surrounded it have been taken away, leaving no trace.

Ulnes Walton lane also features Roecroft Farm and Roe Cottage, both of which may get their names from the local deer population. A thatch roof was revealed after being hidden beneath corrugated iron for more than half a century. A set of antlers from a deer was buried in the thatch. Punishment for poaching deer was severe, and the evidence would be difficult to conceal.
