About Lostock Ward
Description of Lostock Ward
A small village in the South Ribble district of Lancashire, England, Lostock Hall is a popular residential area. It's about 3 miles (4.8 km) south of Preston and 2.5 miles (4 km) north of Leyland, on the south bank of the River Ribble. The intersection of the M6, M61, and M65 freeways forms its southeastern boundary. In the 2001 United Kingdom Census, 3,949 people lived in the immediate vicinity of Lostock Hall; by 2011, that number had decreased to 3,762.
Geography
Leyland Road, the primary northward artery of Lostock Hall, connects to the northwestern neighborhood of Penwortham and, from there, to the northern city of Preston at the intersection of B5254 (Leyland Road) and Flag Lane. The historic railroad bridge over Wateringpool Lane forms the northernmost edge of Walton Park, a residential area that transitions into the rural community of Walton-le-Dale (just after the gas works). The 'Old Railway Bridge,' located on the B5257, marks the eastern boundary between Brownedge Road and Bamber Bridge (Brownedge Lane). Between Lostock Hall and Cuerden lies the south-eastern roundabout at the intersection of B5254 (Watkin Lane) and A582 (Lostock Lane - eastbound).
Governance
Lostock Hall is a ward in the South Ribble borough, however it is not a parish.
In the 2015 South Ribble local council elections, the Lostock Hall ward was won by the Conservative Party's Joseph Clifford Hughes, Jacqui Mort, and Renee Noreen Blow.
Jeff Couperthwaite, also of the Conservative Party, represents the Lostock Hall & Bamber Bridge electoral division on the Lancashire County Council. Lostock Hall is located inside this division.
Since the 2010 midterm elections, the area has been included in the larger Ribble Valley constituency. Nigel Evans, a Conservative Party member, represents this area in Parliament.
At the next general election, Lostock Hall would become part of a redrawn South Ribble seat as a result of boundary revisions suggested by the Boundary Commission for England as part of the Sixth Periodic Review of Westminster seats. The Government was presented with the recommendations on September 5th, 2018, and it is now up to Parliament to determine whether or not to adopt the proposed boundary modifications.
