About Out Rawcliffe
Out Rawcliffe, England
Located in the Over Wyre section of the Fylde in Lancashire, England, on the north bank of the River Wyre, lies the settlement and civil parish of Out Rawcliffe. In the most recent census, conducted in 2011, the civil parish was home to 626 people.
It stands on the site of the historic Rawcliffe Hall, which dates back to the Middle Ages. Out Rawcliffe St. John Church is the only Anglican church in the village; it was constructed in the Romanesque style by John Deerhurst in 1838, the same year that he designed Preston Prison.
In addition to a village hall where a monthly quiz night is held, Out Rawcliffe used to have a single school, Out Rawcliffe Church of England Primary School, which closed owing to low enrollment.
Historically, the area now known as Out Rawcliffe was part of the parish of St. Michael on Wyre. In 1866, it was officially recognized as a civil parish, and from 1894 to 1974, it was a part of the Garstang Rural District. Now it is a part of Wyre Borough.
Out Rawcliffe is included in the Wyre Borough Council's Great Eccleston ward alongside Great Eccleston, Inskip-with-Sowerby, and Upper Rawcliffe-with-Tarnacre and Kirkland.
Located on the banks of the Wyre, 5.4 miles due east by north of Poulton railway station, and 5.2 miles west south west of Garstang, is the township and ecclesiastical parish of Rawcliffe, Out, in the parish of St. Michael on the Wyre, Lancashire. The Great Eccleston Post Office, Money Order, and Telegraph Office is located below Garstang. It has a total of 4593 acres (only 162 of which are water) and a population of 721. The French family owns this magnificent estate. The valuation of the living, which includes a home, is £185 (net) and the diocese is Manchester. The Reverend Michael Wyre, Vicar of St. Michael.
