About Dutton

Dutton, Cheshire

Dutton, located about two miles (three kilometres) east of Runcorn, is a civil parish and village in the unitary authority of Cheshire West and Chester in the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. Dutton Hall was constructed in 1513 and later relocated to Sussex, England, during the 1930s. Dutton is located on the River Weaver. The Grand Junction Railway crosses the Weaver Valley on the 60-foot-high Dutton Viaduct, which consists of 20 arches, each 63 feet in span.

In 2011, its population was recorded as 424.

History

At Domesday, it was referred to as Duntune, and it belonged to the ancient family of Dutton, who were the county's minstrels and pipers. The Duttons erected Dutton Hall in 1513, and the building, which was said to "exhibit fine features of the architecture of its period," was dismantled in the 1930s and relocated to Ashurst Wood, West Sussex, where it was rebuilt into Stoke Brunswick School.

Demography

From 1881 to 2011, Dutton's population went up and down, but it was always declining. Dutton had 452 residents in 1881, but only 424 in 2011. Over the course of the 130 years of data, 28 lives were lost. According to the 2011 census data, Dutton has a population density of 0.4 people per hectare. The average population density in England is 5.0 people per hectare, so this is significantly lower.
