Description of Thornley-with-Wheatley
Located in the Ribble Valley Borough of Lancashire, England, Thornley-with-Wheatley is a civil parish. There are no towns or cities within a reasonable distance, so the area is completely rural. The 2011 census reported a population of 320, a number that has changed little in the preceding century.
Except for a stretch of about half a mile (1 km) at its western end, the entire parish is located within the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which includes the western half of Longridge Fell and the portion known as Jeffrey Hill. Towards the northwestern edge, the River Loud provides a natural delineator. It features the Longridge Golf Club and the Grade II-listed Catholic Chapel of St. William at Lee House, whose parish closed in 1991 but is still occasionally used.
Weaver and early Methodist preacher Ann Cutler was born in this house in 1759.
