About Longridge
Description of Longridge
The town of Longridge, a civil parish in the Lancashire borough of Ribble Valley, is a popular shopping destination. It can be found on the western end of Longridge Fell, a long ridge above the River Ribble, which lies 8 miles (13 km) north-east of Preston. Located three miles (5 km) to the southeast is the village of Grimsargh, and six miles (10 km) to the southeast is the ancient Roman town of Ribchester (Bremetennacum). In the 2001 Census, 7,546 people were counted as living in the parish of Longridge; by 2011, that number had risen to 7,724.
History of Longridge
St. Lawrence's Church, located on the border between the historic parishes of Dilworth and Alston and to the south of the current town center, served as the nucleus from which Longridge expanded. Even though there was a street named "Market Place," the area immediately surrounding it was undeveloped. Following the year 1800, the city grew significantly. Expansion to the north followed, and it was around this time that a mill was built to the north of Kestor Lane.
Community
There are a number of elementary and secondary institutions as well as eleven bars and restaurants in town. An Air Cadet Force squadron and an Army Cadet Force outpost also call this location home. Alston Hall, a residential adult education college run by Lancashire Adult Learning, may be found in the Longridge parish as well.
Notable people
St. Cecilia's RC High School has produced several notable athletes, including freestyle footballer John Farnworth, Irish national team footballer Alan Kelly, and Warwickshire cricketer Andrew Miller. It's important to cite when using this term.
Christina Chong, the actress, once resided in the area and attended dance classes at the nearby Sutcliffe School of Dance.
When he passed away in 2015, composer Ernest Tomlinson was a neighbor of Longridge's. His barn was where he kept his collection of easy listening orchestral music.
