Lincoln, England is the county town of Lincolnshire and a cathedral city. Lincoln County had 103,813 residents as of the 2021 census.  Lincoln and its surrounding metropolitan area (which includes North Hykeham and Waddington) has a total population of 115,000 as per the 2011 census.

A riverside Iron Age settlement gave rise to Roman Lindum Colonia. Lincoln Cathedral, a masterpiece of English Gothic architecture that stood as the world's tallest structure for more than two centuries, and the Norman Lincoln Castle, built in the 11th century, are both must-see attractions. Lincoln is home to several notable institutions, including the Universities of Lincoln and Bishop Grosseteste as well as the professional football teams Lincoln City FC and Lincoln United FC. Lincoln is the county seat and largest town in Lincolnshire, followed by Grimsby and Scunthorpe.

Lincoln's climate is typical of the East Midland maritime climate, with pleasant winters and rather cold summers. Only six kilometers (four miles) south of here is where you'll find the closest Met Office weather station, which is located at RAF Waddington. Since 1948, the highest recorded temperature was 40.3 °C (104.5 °F) on 19 July 2022 and the lowest was 15.6 °C (3.9 °F) in February 1956. The lowest December daylight maximum temperature ever recorded in England was 9.0 degrees Celsius (15.8 degrees Fahrenheit), set on December 17, 1981 at a defunct meteorological station.  In December 2010, it got as cold as 10.4 °C (13.3 °F), although a weather station nearby Scampton, located about the same distance north of the city center, registered a temperature of 15.6 °C (3.9 °F), tying the record low set at Waddington in 1956.

Economy of Lincoln

Although many of Lincoln's industrial giants have discontinued production, leaving empty industrial warehouse-like buildings, the city's economy is focused on public administration, trade, arable farming, and tourism. Industrial relics like Ruston (now Siemens) remain. In recent years, these spaces have become multi-tenant, with tenants including a radio station (Lincs FM, in the Titanic Works) and a fitness center (LA Fitness). About a third of the labor force is employed in government, schools, and hospitals. Twenty-five percent of distribution goes to food service and lodging establishments. 

Lincoln, like many other cities, has a burgeoning IT sector, with a multitude of e-commerce mail-order enterprises and a wide variety of other, more traditional small industrial establishments. The University of Lincoln was established in part to encourage foreign direct investment and serve as a launching pad for local businesses. Having it there has also attracted more bars and restaurants to the downtown area near Brayford Pool. The Think Tank, a modest commercial space adjacent to a university dormitory, first opened its doors to the public in June 2009. Both major electronics manufacturers are located in Chelmsford: Dynex Semiconductor (formerly Marconi Electronic Devices) on Doddington Road (B1190) close to the A46 bypass and North Hykeham, and e2V (formerly Associated Electrical Industries) between Carholme Road (A57) and the Foss Dyke, next to Carholme Golf Club[38]. The Tower Works, once held by Smith-Clayton Forge Ltd., is now home to Bifrangi, an Italian company that uses a screw press to produce crankshafts for off-road vehicles.

Communities like as Welton, Saxilby, Skellingthorpe, and Washingborough rely on Lincoln as their primary source of goods and services, as well as for employment opportunities. With these people included, the total population is 165,000. Lincoln serves as a regional hub for much of Lincolnshire and some of Nottinghamshire, as well as being the primary employment and infrastructure hub for central Lincolnshire. Lincoln has a "travel-to-work" area with a population of roughly 300,000, as stated in the document named "Central Lincolnshire Local Plan Core Strategy."  Gaining two universities since 1994, it has been able to expand its service industry. Numerous apartment buildings, dining establishments, and nightlife spots have recently sprung up. The Engine Shed and The Venue Cinema are two university-affiliated entertainment venues.
