About Gressingham
Description of Gressingham
Gressingham is a civil parish in the city of Lancaster in the county of Lancashire in England. North of the Lune and directly across from Hornby. The population was 153 at the time of the 2001 census, and it had dropped to 151 by the time of the 2011 census.
The original structure of the Grade I listed Church of St. John the Evangelist dates back to the 12th century. Some of it was reconstructed in 1734, and Edward Paley gave it its current form with some help from the 1860s.
The first Gressingham Ducks, a hybrid of mallards and Pekin ducks, were produced in 1980, earning their name from the nearby village of the same name.
But since 1996, when Gressingham Foods purchased the sole breeding rights for Gressingham Ducks, all of the ducks sold in the United Kingdom come exclusively from their East Anglian farms.
