About Halton

Description of Halton

Located roughly two miles north of Wendover and five miles southeast of Aylesbury, Halton is a tiny settlement and civil parish in the Buckinghamshire district of the ceremonial county of Buckinghamshire, England.

Geographical description of Halton

Halton is not protected from post-war house development because it is just outside the Metropolitan Green Belt. Even though it shares a border with Wendover to the south, the older, more traditional village center that is home to St. Michael and All Angels Church and the Wendover Community Center has been preserved. It's true that there's a separate, contemporary branch of the Catholic Church. RAF Halton, a Royal Air Force (RAF) training station with a grass airfield used for glider training, is located inside the Parish as well. Most of the newer homes in the area were originally constructed for RAF personnel. The RAF community is the primary clientele of this cozy little store. Formerly, the site was home to a huge military hospital that employed hundreds of people until its closure in 1995. The structures remained there until 2007–8, when they were removed to make way for the Princess Mary Gate housing complex on land between Halton and Wendover.

Halton House, a French chateau-style country mansion perched atop the Chiltern Hills above Halton, serves as the base's primary Officers' Mess. It was constructed in 1880 for Alfred de Rothschild. The RAF tore down its glass greenhouse in order to construct a dormitory.

Facilities

At Halton Community Combined School, we educate kids as young as four and as old as eleven. Despite having 70% of its students from Forces households who constantly relocate, the school was recently (Mar 2011) rated 'outstanding' by OFSTED. The school currently has 91 students. A select few potential Olympians combine professional tennis training with home schooling at the Halton Tennis Centre. The RAF, the previous administrators of the Centre, still conducts training there. Halton Preschool is a coed preschool with groups of 15 to 30 students for children ages 2 to 4.
