About Tunstall
Description of Tunstall, Lancashire
The English community of Tunstall is located in the county of Lancashire, north of the city of Preston (grid reference SD607736). Located on the A683 between Lancaster and Kirkby Lonsdale, this location lies 11.1 miles (18 km) to the northeast of Lancaster. The population of Tunstall's civil parish was 105 at the time of the 2001 census. As part of the 2011 census, Tunstall was combined with Cantsfield (2001 pop. 76) to produce a total population of 223.
The Church of St. John the Baptist is a Grade I listed building in the north-east corner of the settlement.
Tunstall is mostly made up of a few homes, a restaurant, a community center, and a tennis court. There are many community gatherings, like Christmas services and trivia nights, held at the Lunesdale Arms, a restaurant and tavern in the area.
Thurland Castle, built in the 1300s, sits to the south of the town. After being reduced to ruins during a siege in 1643, it was reconstructed in 1809 and 1829. In 1879, however, a fire completely destroyed the structure. Apartments have been built inside the structure.
