About North Turton
Description of North Turton
Located in the county of Lancashire, England, North Turton is a civil parish inside the boundaries of the town of Blackburn with Darwen. There were 3,736 residents of the civil parish as of the 2001 United Kingdom Census and 3,867 as of the 2011 Census. The northern section of Turton's historic district is known as North Turton. Between Blackburn and Bolton to the north and south, you'll find North Turton in the West Pennine Moors.
The A666 (Blackburn Road), the A675 (Belmont Road), and the B6391 are the three major thoroughfares that pass through North Turton (Chapeltown Road).
In 1974, the rural portion of the Turton Urban District became the new community of North Turton. There are a few smaller communities, such as Entwistle and Quarlton, as well as the larger communities of Edgworth, Chapeltown, and Belmont, all of which make up this civil parish.
Entwistle railway station is served by Northern, who run trains along the Ribble Valley Line, and has a limited but reliable commuter rail service. Because of Beeching's rail reductions in the 1960s, a second station, serving Turton and Edgworth, was closed.
