About Downham
Description of Downham
South-east London, England's Downham is a neighbourhood in the Lewisham borough. It is north of Bromley and south of Catford, and it shares a border with the London Borough of Bromley.
Lord Downham, who served as chairman of the London County Council in 1919 and 1920, inspired the town's naming.
Just to the west of Downham is where the Prime Meridian can be found.
Geography of Downham
Some of the neighbourhoods that surround Downham are Grove Park, Plaistow, Bromley Hill, Beckenham, Bellingham, Southend, and Whitefoot. Forster Memorial Park, Beckenham Place Park, and Downham Fields are just some of the nearby and nearby green spaces in Downham. New amenities include Downham Sports and Leisure Centre and a Tesco Local, while Woolworths and all the local banks have recently closed. The BP station, built on the site of the 1930s-era 2244-seater Splendid Cinema, now houses a Marks & Spencers supermarket. South of Downham Way, close to the Bromley Court Hotel, is where you'll find a Quasar Laser Tag arena. The Bonus Pastor Academy has two campuses in Downham (Churchdown and Winlaton), and their Whitefoot Lane campus is home to expansive playing fields that are traversed by the Green Chain Walk.
Housing and Environment, Health, Crime and Community Safety, Neighbourhood Management, Community Development, Children and Young People, and Employment and Enterprise are just some of the areas that have benefited from the work of the Neighbourhood Renewal Unit and the Lewisham Strategic Partnership.
