About Twiston
Description of Twiston
Located in the Ribble Valley District of Lancashire, England, the village and civil parish of Twiston is a part of the larger community of Ribble Valley. Close by are the communities of Clitheroe and Downham (in whose parish the population of Twiston is now included). Part of the Forest of Bowland, an official National Park and designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the parish is a sight to behold. There are three other parishes nearby: Downham and Rimington in the Ribble Valley, and Barley-with-Wheatley Booth in Pendle.
Historically, the area now known as Twiston was part of the parish of Whalley. In 1866, it was officially recognised as a civil parish, and from 1894 to 1974, it was included in the Clitheroe Rural District.
The parish is part of the Chatburn ward in Ribble Valley Borough Council, along with Chatburn and Downham.
