About Simonstone

Description of Simonstone, Lancashire

Located in Lancashire, England's Ribble Valley, the settlement of Simonstone is also a civil parish. At the time of the last census, in 2011, the civil parish counted 1,154 residents. Located south of Pendle Hill and west of Clitheroe on the A671, it is roughly 6 kilometers (4 miles) from Burnley. Padiham is also a neighboring community, as is the village of Read in Lancashire.

History of Simonstone

The village's St. Peter's Church of England (CE) was established in 1841. The building's interior is contemporary, and it doubles as a gym and assembly hall for the school throughout the week. The structure has been a National School since its construction in 1879.

When you stay at the Higher Trapp Hotel, you'll be staying at a Best Western property. Built as a private residence in the early 1900s, it has now been renovated into a 29-room country inn.

The Simonstone train station was located south of the community and was decommissioned in 1957.

Up until 2005, the hamlet was home to Granville Technology Group.

Governance

Historically, the area now known as Simonstone was part of the parish of Whalley. In 1866, it was officially recognized as a civil parish, and from 1894 until 1974, it was a part of the Burnley Rural District. In 1974, when new council districts were drawn up, Simonstone became part of the Borough of Burnley. Nonetheless, the Borough of Ribble Valley now includes it as a result of a public campaign and Boundary Commission study that concluded in 1985. Part of the neighboring civil parish of Northtown was transferred to Simonstone during the process, and the borders along the river with Padiham and Altham were tweaked slightly.

It is part of the Ribble Valley Borough Council's Read and Simonstone ward, along with Read.
