Burnley, Lancashire, England, has a neighborhood called Stoneyholme that lies just north of the city proper. It comprises mainly of pre-1919 terraced houses and is flanked to the west by the M65 highway, to the east by the railway, and to the south by the Leeds and Liverpool canal.
Between the years 1860 and 1914, Stoneyholme was constructed to accommodate Burnley's growing workforce. The Ashley Street Dye Works (built in 1909 and now converted to workshop units) was one of the few remaining industrial buildings in the area; two gas holders also remain. Since the property market collapsed there in recent years, the county of East Lancashire has implemented the Elevate program to demolish and replace run-down homes there.
