Prince William, the president of BAFTA, is set to attend the EE Bafta Film Awards ceremony on Sunday evening.
Typically accompanied by his wife Princess Kate at the glamorous event, this year he will be attending solo as Princess Kate continues to recuperate from abdominal surgery she underwent last month.
Since his wife’s surgery, the Prince of Wales has limited his engagements to prioritize her recovery and care for their three children during half term. However, he is expected to resume public duties once Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis return to school on Monday.
Kate was discharged from the hospital at the end of January after nearly two weeks of hospitalization for surgery, the nature of which has not been disclosed except that it is unrelated to cancer. She is expected to remain out of action until at least Easter.
The family spent the half-term holiday at Anmer Hall in Norfolk, indicating Kate’s positive progress in her recovery. According to former royal correspondent Jennie Bond, this change of scenery is a promising sign of Kate’s steady recovery.
In 2023, Kate and William made their long-awaited return to the BAFTAS red carpet after a three-year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Their absence in 2022 was attributed to “diary constraints,” but their appearance last year was warmly welcomed by fans, with Kate stunning in a white one-shouldered gown and black elbow-length gloves.
The public eagerly awaits Kate’s return to public life, with the possibility of her attending the Easter Sunday service at Windsor being the next royal event on the horizon.
