The family of Steve Wright issued a statement expressing deep sorrow and regret over his passing. Along with his children, Tom and Lucy, Steve is survived by his brother, Laurence, and father, Richard. They also mentioned his close friends, colleagues, and millions of loyal radio listeners who cherished his presence in their daily lives. The family requested privacy during this difficult time.

Steve Wright, who began his career with the BBC in the 1970s, was known for hosting afternoon shows on both Radio 1 and Radio 2. He also presented popular television programs like Top of the Pops from 1980 to 1989. Born in Greenwich, he last appeared on air on Sunday, February 11, hosting a pre-recorded Valentine’s Day edition of his Love Songs program.

BBC Director General Tim Davie paid tribute to Wright, describing him as a wonderful broadcaster who had touched the lives of many over several decades, expressing the BBC’s heartfelt sadness at the news of his passing.
